Ed Rodríguez is a versatile entrepreneur / intrapreneur specialized in inventing, planning, launching, and managing new market mobile and information solutions business opportunities.  His leadership skills have been proven in market leading, high-growth enterprises from start-ups to the Fortune 100 across a broad scope of roles including corporate strategy, general management, strategic marketing, operations, project management, business reengineering, finance, and consulting. Strategically, Ed has created and presented new market business cases resulting in more than $3 Billion in annual sales. Tactically, Ed is known for building and leading high-performing cross-function teams including managing a $MM start-up business unit overseas.

Most recently, Ed founded @ U Labs, a business catalyst developing innovative businesses to help large communities of passionate individuals be better informed, entertained, and make better decisions with highly discoverable mobile apps and digital media of deep emotional and situational relevance. The focus of this small business is on discovery, passion and mobility.

Previously, LoJack Corporation brought Ed in as Principal, Strategic Marketing to assist in planning and executing its diversification. Ed helped establish LoJack as the premier provider of location-based wireless and data solutions for a new consumer market and the firm’s first health sector venture: care and rescue of Alzheimer’s and autistic wanderers. Ed led Customer Operations, designing and implementing new business processes and information systems amongst nine functions, four enterprises, and two countries.  Chief among his challenges was launching a new service-sale business model while improving the ongoing product sales model, and negotiating the purchase of legacy systems critical to launch goals.

Before LoJack, as a consultant, Ed’s commitments included:

  • Catalyzing a GigE wireless services start-up (MetroNext, Inc.)
  • Planning a Fortune 100 communications network services firm’s international business
  • Authoring premier analyst reports on next-generation wireless convergence opportunities
  • Supporting venture capital due diligence, and advising portfolio firms

Prior to consulting, Ed directed Corporate Market and Business Intelligence of Emerging Markets for EDS, the $20 Billion global leader in independent IT outsourcing and professional services. Ed regularly composed and led virtual teams of EDS and external subject matter experts to drive creation and actualization of the five year corporate New Market Landscape. Among many corporate new market initiatives, Ed created and presented the original EDS Business Process Management (BPM) business plan.  Endorsed as a core line of business, BPM produced over $3 Billion in annual sales for EDS.  He also created the corporate decision model used to target entry into new international markets. (HP bought EDS in 2008.)

Ed led EDS’ first business unit in Colombia, South America from start-up to managed growth as General Manager with P&L responsibility to manage billing solutions delivery for the world’s fastest growing (market penetration) cellular carrier, Celumóvil. Despite challenging conditions, Ed achieved the highest team and client satisfaction ratings while exceeding budget revenue by 20% and budget profitability by 300%. Previously, Ed established Strategic Planning at EDS’ Personal Communications business unit as part of BPR, and supported Latin America regional marketing efforts, and joint customer planning. EDS Personal Communications Corporation was a leading provider of billing systems and inter-carrier solutions to the global wireless industry.

Ed also applied his entrepreneurship education by founding Private Planet, an e-commerce company focused on the privacy problem. Ed is bilingual English / Spanish. He graduated with honors from Boston College where he earned a BS degree in dual Marketing and Economics majors. He earned an MBA from Babson (Olin) Graduate School of Management, which is consistently rated as the #1 US business school for entrepreneurship.
